Tampa, FL, December 11, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Bill Horne, CEO of Laser Spine Institute (http://www.laserspineinstitute.com), the leader in endoscopic spine surgery, has announced that Michael C. Weiss, D.O., FAOAO, chairman of surgery, will serve on the GE Healthcare Pain Management Medical Advisory Board. GE Healthcare provides transformational medical technologies and services, with expertise in medical imaging and information technologies, medical diagnostics, patient monitoring systems, performance improvement, drug discovery and biopharmaceutical manufacturing technologies. As a member of the board, Weiss will share best practices on pain management and discuss potential clinical studies, as well as pressing clinical challenges within the industry.
As chairman of surgery, Weiss directs Laser Spine Institute’s proprietary fellowship training that all its surgeons complete. Weiss leads the surgical component of Laser Spine Institute’s four state-of-the-art surgery centers and collaborates with other medical experts. He began his career as an orthopedic surgeon in 1986, after receiving his medical degree from Nova Southeastern University in Florida. He completed his internship and residency at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital in Michigan, where he was appointed Chief Resident in 1991. He expanded his training into several sub-disciplines of orthopedics, obtaining additional surgical training at Wayne State University and training in hand surgery at Detroit Medical Center, total joint surgery at Port Huron Hospital, and pediatric orthopedics at Shriners Hospital in Tampa. Additionally, Weiss underwent intensive training in adult reconstruction at Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh. After years of multi-specialty training, Weiss developed a private practice in south Florida, where for nearly two decades he utilized his expertise in the field of orthopedics and his commitment to patient care. Before being named chairman of surgery in 2011, Weiss served as Laser Spine Institute’s chief spine surgeon in Scottsdale, Ariz. from 2008-2010.

“Dr. Weiss will no doubt contribute a great deal to the GE Healthcare Pain Management Medical Advisory Board as he continues to perform surgery and oversee surgeon and fellowship training for new surgeons and surgical practices at Laser Spine Institute,” said Horne. “He is an ambassador for the best of patient care in all his endeavors, and he will help foster and promote an environment of learning, innovative advancement and cooperation on this advisory board as he strives to help patients rediscover a life without pain.”
“It is my pleasure and honor to serve on the GE Healthcare Pain Management Medical Advisory Board, and my goal is that the background I bring to the task will help further the cause of medical advances,” said Weiss. “Laser Spine Institute places great importance on the latest medical advances especially as they pertain to minimally invasive spine surgery, which is all we do, day in and day out. That alone helps us achieve a higher level of proficiency, work more effectively, and get better outcomes and lower complication rates.”
