Nevada Women’s Philanthropy Looks to Fund a Dream Project in 2012

“Every year NWP looks to fund a project that will meet a critical unmet need for our community,” said Carrie Henderson, NWP president. “Since 2006, NWP has gifted over $2 million to eleven organizations in Southern Nevada which has positively impacted thousands of lives.”

Las Vegas, NV, December 11, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Nevada Women’s Philanthropy (NWP) is hosting the 2012 Grant Symposium from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce to kick off its 2012 funding cycle. Representatives from area non-profits are invited to learn more about NWP and its grant selection criteria prior to submitting letters of intent for one lump sum grant that is intended to make possible one dream project.

“The grant symposium serves as a starting place so those dreams can come true.”

In October, NWP voted to grant $325,000 to Salvation Army of Southern Nevada to rehabilitate its emergency overnight shelter. Community Counseling Center of Southern Nevada received the NWP Founders Grant.

Past grant recipients include the Rape Crisis Center, NWP Signs of Hope Counseling Center ($350,000); 2009 Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada, NWP Children’s Attorneys Project ($325,000); 2008 Public Education Foundation, Empowerment Schools Program ($450,000); 2007 Greater Las Vegas After-School All-Stars, Roundy Elementary School ($320,000). The inaugural grant was awarded to Foundation for an Independent Tomorrow. It created the NWP Employment Project with $180,000. Three Square, Lied Discovery Children’s Museum and Boys Town of Nevada are NWP Founders Grant recipients. NWP has gifted $2.1 million to non-profits in Southern Nevada since it was created in 2006.
