DirectRooms.com – Teatro Alhambra Presents a New Production of Gracia Morales Play in January 2012
The Teatro Alhambra is staging a new production by Remiendo Teatro of "Un Horizonte Amarillo en Los Ojos" ("A Yellow Eyes Horizon") by Gracia Morales, from Friday 20th until Sunday 22nd January 2012.
Granada, Spain, December 13, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The playwright, Gracia Morales, describes the play as focussing on, “Confinement, heightened individualism, rootlessness, exile, violence, lacking in values.. . A Yellow Eyes Horizon’ builds into a disturbing metaphor.” This is a challenging play, which confronts some of life’s more difficult issues.
Remiendo Teatro was founded in 2004 as a joint project between Gracia Morales, playwright and actor, Carlos Gil Company, actor and producer, Antonio Hernandez Rye, director, and Gil Fernando M. Vidal, theatrical design. Their aim is to show work that questions an audience’s preconceptions and provides an uneasy point of view.
"A Yellow Eyes Horizon" begins with a single man on the stage, talking to a boy that we cannot see or hear. His monologue/dialogue confronts us with a man who lives in a painful, violent world, where poverty, fear and war have forced everyone to live in permanent exile, dragging their possessions with them wherever they go, unable to settle in one place. Through this dialogue with the unseen child, we explore the protagonist’s hopes, fears and memories.
The set and costume design add to the sense of displacement and are complemented by a sequence of images projected onto the back of the stage, which further explore some of the issues the protagonist is talking about by juxtaposing discordant images that work with or against the text, bringing a further perspective to this work.
Gracia Morales has a Masters in Literature from the University of Granada where she now teaches Hispano-American Literature. She has published numerous plays, poetry and short stories, as well as academic texts and articles. Her plays have been performed across Spain, France and in Latin America. A number of hotels in Granada City Centre are within walking distance of the theatre.
