Fourteen Rochester, NY Veterinary Practices Offer Discounted Care to Veterans Adopting Shelter Pets
Pets for Patriots partners with Monroe Veterinary Associates to help save last-chance dogs and cats.
Rochester, NY, December 15, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Pets for Patriots, Inc., a not-for-profit dedicated to connecting last-chance shelter pets with service and veteran members of the United States military, welcomes 14 member practices of Rochester-area Monroe Veterinary Associates to its fight against animal homelessness.
“We're thrilled to have so many outstanding veterinarians available to Rochester patriots who adopt through our program,” says Beth Zimmerman, founder and executive director of Pets for Patriots. “The commitment to our cause from the highest levels of Monroe Veterinary Associates is remarkable.”
Monroe Veterinary Associates (MVA) operates 14 full-service companion animal hospitals in the greater Rochester region, all of which have joined Pets for Patriots. For any eligible pet adopted through the Pets for Patriots program, MVA partner practices will extend an ongoing 10% discount off veterinary fees.
"We support many local humane organizations, so helping to unite shelter pets with new owners is consistent with our values," says Dr. Paul Black, President of MVA. "At the same time, to be able to help current and former members of our armed forces is a wonderful opportunity."
Discounted veterinary care is an essential component of the Pets for Patriots mission.
“Surrender prevention is an important part of our work,” says Zimmerman. “Short-term financial hardship leads many people to relinquish their pets. Our goal is to keep the families we help create together, and the generosity of MVA will help Rochester veterans and service members in our program keep their new pet friends healthy and happy.”
The charity's local adoption partner is Lollypop Farm, Humane Society of Greater Rochester, which offers Pets for Patriots members a 50% adoption fee discount. Several successful adoptions have already taken place through Lollypop Farm, including an Army veteran's rescue of a one-eyed pit bull.
Eligible adoptions include a dog or cat at least two years old, dogs over 40 pounds regardless of age, and special needs pets. Joining Pets for Patriots is free.
"This is an opportunity to help some of these less fortunate pets find loving homes," says Black. "Everyone that is part of the MVA team wants to thank our men and women of the armed forces for the wonderful job they have performed and continue to perform. We are proud to be associated with Pets for Patriots and look forward to assisting both the patriots and their pets with their healthcare needs."
Individuals are eligible from any United States armed forces and at any stage of their careers. Those interested in the program must first apply through Pets for Patriots and provide proof of their military service or honorable discharge. Approval typically takes two business days, after which veterans can adopt an eligible pet from Lollypop Farm and seek discounted pet care from any of 14 MVA veterinarians across the Rochester metro area.
