Charitable Fleece Blankets Merchandiser Blanket America Teams Up with Gap 1969 and Los Angeles Mission to Donate Blankets

Woven blanket retailer Blanket America and The Gap’s Gap 1969 brand have joined forces to hand out 1000 blankets at non-profit Los Angeles Mission.

New York, NY, December 15, 2011 --(PR.com)-- To celebrate the holiday season, charitable blankets manufacturer and distributor Blanket America, available online at http://www.BlanketAmerica.com, has teamed up with The Gap’s “Gap 1969” brand to organize a massive blanket donation in Downtown Los Angeles. Blanket America has been working with Gap 1969 for some time, selling selections of its woven and fleece blankets in several of The Gap’s 1969 stores, both in Los Angeles and the SoHo district in New York City.

“We at Blanket America make an effort to help out all year round, but we know that this particular time of year can really wear thin on people, both financially and emotionally. Being able to work with Gap 1969, which has been graciously sporting some of our blankets and throws in several locations, do something for those in need during the holiday season is a great privilege,” said Mesh Gelman, founder of Blanket America.

On Wednesday, December 14, Gelman and Joel Chetner of Blanket America and a variety of representatives from The Gap handed out 1,000 blankets at Los Angeles Mission, located at 303 East 5th Street in Downtown’s Skid Row/Hope Central district.

Los Angeles Mission is a non-profit organization created to help the homeless of Los Angeles. Since its inception it has provided help to a wide variety of those in need, whether they’re struggling with alcoholism, drug addiction, or physical and emotional abuse. The Mission holds a number of holiday events as well, including its upcoming Christmas dinner on December 23.

“We were drawn to Los Angeles Mission because their ideals are similar to our own. They understand that misfortune can fall on anyone, no matter age, race, gender, educational status, and they’re dedicated to helping these people however they can,” said Gelman.

Blanket America is no stranger to charity efforts. For every item sold on its site, including sheets, window decor, and woven blankets and throws, a donation is made to a group or individual in need. The company also started the CHOOSE HAITI Initiative, which showcases bracelets created in and T-shirts inspired by Haiti. The proceeds go toward rebuilding Haiti.
