Engineering Charity the Smallpeice Trust on the Look-Out for Potential Nuclear Engineers
Engineering Charity the Smallpeice Trust is running a short nuclear engineering course for 14-16 year olds at the University of Lancaster in July 2012.
Leamington Spa, United Kingdom, December 16, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Independent educational charity The Smallpeice Trust has launched its new 2012 course timetable and is now seeking hundreds of 13 to 17 year old students to sample their taster engineering courses. Any student can apply to attend a wide range of subsidised four-day residential courses which take place at universities nationwide. Subjects include Engineering Construction, Engineering Experience, Mobile Communications, Nuclear Marine Engineering, Railway Engineering and Structural Engineering. These are designed to attract students that have an interest or natural flair in Science, Maths, Design or Technology to consider a career in engineering.
The Nuclear Engineering course takes place at Lancaster University from 16th to 19th July 2012 and is sponsored by the National Nuclear Laboratory. This four day residential course for sixty 14 and 16 year olds (Year 10 & 11) gives students the opportunity to explore this exciting field whilst providing an insight into the potential careers available in this sector.
Important challenges such as radiation, the environment, decommissioning and waste will be covered. Students will team up with real engineers from industry on boundary-pushing projects which requires them to wear respirators, dress in special overalls and use multiple gloves - all brilliant experience for those wanting to find out what a career in this industry is really like.
All Smallpeice courses are linked to the National Curriculum and are designed to improve core skills such as team building, financial management, communication and problem solving. By attending one of our courses students will gain experience of university and working life that will accelerate their personal development and their potential for greater academic achievement.
The Nuclear Engineering course, costs £145 for 4-days full board, all course materials and supervised social activities. A strong interface is maintained with industry, education and professional bodies that help to support, promote and develop the courses. Through these relationships the Trust is also able to provide a number of tailored or specialised courses.
