Bayer CropScience Supports The Shepherd’s Table Soup Kitchen
Crop Science Company Employees Support Local Nonprofit with Volunteer Days and $7,500 Annual Donation.
Research Triangle Park, NC, December 17, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Bayer CropScience (http://www.bayercropscience.com), one of the world’s top innovative crop science companies in the areas of crop protection, non-agricultural pest control, seeds and traits, has announced that the company recently participated in a service and educational event for The Shepherd’s Table Soup Kitchen. The event, which involved providing a meal and winter clothing to Triangle men and women in need, was part of Bayer CropScience’s holiday outreach efforts. The Shepherd’s Table Soup Kitchen, located at the Church of the Good Shepherd in downtown Raleigh, serves meals to hundreds of Triangle residents each day.
On Tuesday, Dec. 13, Bayer CropScience employees filled more than 375 gift bags with necessary winter items, including ponchos, umbrellas, gloves, water, snacks and more for delivery to the soup kitchen. The next day, the gift bags were distributed to area residents in need at The Shepherd’s Table Soup Kitchen during a lunchtime meal, also prepared and served by Bayer CropScience employees. In addition to volunteering with The Shepherd’s Table, Bayer CropScience also makes a $7,500 annual donation to the organization through the Bayer USA Foundation.

“Bayer CropScience actively seeks to educate citizens on the importance of healthy living, nutrition, and how advances in crop science and technology make these things possible,” said Dr. Jack Boyne, director of communications for Bayer CropScience and member of the board of directors for The Shepherd’s Table. “Our employees seek to serve The Shepherd’s Table Soup Kitchen due to their passion for ensuring the health of the world’s food supply, as well as their strong belief in the mission of The Shepherd’s Table. Providing meals to people in need is one small way to accomplish both during this holiday season.”
“We are grateful for Bayer CropScience’s support of our efforts to provide food this holiday season to those who need it most,” said Tamara Gregory, executive director of The Shepherd’s Table Soup Kitchen. “The gift bags are also much appreciated, and we want to extend a special thanks to all of their employees who made this possible.”
