SoWink Debuts Activity-Based Social Dating and Networking for Gen Y

SoWink, the activity-based social dating and networking site for college students, recent graduates and young professionals between the ages of 18-35, released its public beta version of the product today.

San Jose, CA, December 18, 2011 --(PR.com)-- SoWink (www.SoWink.com), a website that provides social networking and dating through the utilization of gaming metrics, today launched open beta. The activity-based social dating service enables users to easily meet new people around them by doing fun things they enjoy together, at a discounted rate. This is done while effectively mitigating the risk of having to exchange private contact information in order to meet. SoWink aims to provide the ultimate social experience for college students, college graduates and young working professionals, providing a platform that blends aspects of Facebook, Meetup and Foursquare all into one simple, easy-to-use product.

SoWink’s demographic is users between the ages of 18-35. Anyone within this age range can sign up. Users registering with a .edu email address will be granted immediate access to the service. Users signing up with a non-.edu email will go through an email and mobile verification step to ensure a real, quality community of members.

SoWink worked on new features, listened to feedback and took recommendations from users on how to make the site more user-friendly during the closed beta period. They recently updated the service with a Secret Admirer feature, a MiniBlog and an Activity Stream, which encourages users to meet new people around them while discovering new activities at the same time. New features of the open beta site include the adoption of video and audio technology to facilitate user interaction, the full implementation of the Meeting System to allow users to meet safely and securely and discount coupons around the San Francisco bay area for select activities, events and dining.

"What we're really trying to do with SoWink is add some much needed disruption to the online dating industry. There has been very little innovation in this field since the early adoption of matchmaking-based online dating, despite being in an age of rapid technological advancements. The existing model is broken, completely misaligning the interests of the consumer and the provider, not to mention that it's far less social and interactive than what savvy young consumers look for in a product nowadays," said Di Huang, CEO, SoWink.

Unlike traditional online dating sites that rely on matching algorithms, SoWink focuses on natural encounters and organic chemistry. Their focus is to bridge the gap between the online and offline world by linking people together through activities of mutual interest.
