Local Businesses Golf for Soldiers and Students
On July 25, 2011, DynCorp International was pleased both to sponsor and to participate in the 19th Annual USO-Metro/AFCEA-DC Golf Classic at the Lansdowne Golf Resort in Virginia. This year’s tournament raised more than $170,000 to benefit both the USO of Metropolitan Washington and the AFCEA-DC scholarship fund.

The mission of the USO, “Serving those who serve, and their families,” is achieved through its many programs and services that help build and maintain the morale of the military community. Because the USO is a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization, it depends almost solely on the donations of both individuals and corporations like DynCorp International to support service members and their loved ones. USO programs vary from celebrity visits for hospital patients to running a Deployed Family Fun Day; the Golf Classic is just one of many ways the Washington USO office acquires funds to support local soldiers and their families.
Fun and Prizes for a Cause
Along with shirts and goody bags for all those who participated in the golf tournament, several raffles were held and other great prizes given away. These included awards to those lucky enough to make a hole-in-one, to the first- through fourth-place foursomes, to the man and woman making the longest drive and to the man and woman landing a shot closest to the pin.
