Gates Corporation Announces the Release of the Gates® PT Toolkit™ Mobile Application for iPhone® and Android™ Devices
The free Gates app enables engineers, maintenance personnel & others working with power transmission drives to quickly calculate energy savings, center distance, belt tension & more.
Denver, CO, December 22, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Gates Corporation, a leading manufacturer of industrial and automotive products, today announced the launch of the Gates® PT Toolkit™ mobile application, or “app,” for iPhone® and Android™ devices. Available in English from the Android Market and the iTunes® App Store and intended for use in the United States, the Gates app offers several power transmission reference tools in one user-friendly and accessible interface.
“Innovation remains a top priority for Gates, not only in our products but in the tools we offer our customers. Recognizing the type of information our users need to access quickly to be effective, Gates developed this app with convenience and usability as our primary consideration,” said Mike Haen, Director of Industrial Marketing for North America at Gates. “The Gates PT Toolkit empowers smartphone users to access valuable information quickly and easily – whether they are estimating potential energy savings, checking the approximate center distance, or calculating the required belt tension – they can do it anywhere, anytime.”
Engineers, maintenance personnel and others working with synchronous belt drives and V-belt drives will find these tools within the Gates app:
· Energy Savings Calculator: First offered at gates.com/ptsavings, this calculator uses basic information about a motor to deliver estimated annual savings that can be achieved by converting to energy efficient Gates synchronous belt drives.
· Center Distance Calculator: It calculates approximate center distance and belt length for both synchronous and V-belt drives. For exact center distance calculations, please contact the Product Application Engineering team at PTPAsupport@gates.com or by calling the hotline at 303-744-5800, option 2.
· Belt Tension Calculator: It computes the ideal belt tension or belt length for Gates V-belt drives or Poly Chain® GT® Carbon™ belt drives. The belt tension calculator does not include belt drive ratings and should only be used to calculate tension on existing drives. Software for new belt drive designs can be found at www.gates.com/drivedesign.
· Conversions Tool: It converts fractions into decimals or millimeter equivalents and allows users to paste results into the app’s other calculators as needed. Additional conversions include “Inches to Millimeters” and “Watt to Horsepower.”
The app is functional online and offline, giving users access to all four features 24/7 whether they are in the office or doing remote field work. Users performing calculations while offline can email results to themselves, customers or colleagues when phone or wireless service is restored.
