Formic Media Makes Cash Donation to Help Reduce Hunger in Oregon
Portland, OR, December 26, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Formic Media, Inc., a search engine and social media marketing agency, announced that it would be making a $500 cash donation to Oregon Food Bank (OFB).
“While Formic is already donating its time and resources to its 2011 annual Charity of Choice, Oregon Humane Society, the team is very proud to be able to extend our reach to other organizations in need,” stated Kent Lewis, President of Formic Media. “Oregon Food Bank felt like a timely recipient to the team, with the holidays upon us.”
“We are fortunate to live in a caring community,” said Sarah Schirmer, OFB corporate gifts developer. At a time when need is escalating and resources throughout the Oregon Food Bank Network are stretched thin, we greatly appreciate corporations stepping forward to help.”
Formic Media has always had a commitment to the local community it serves. When founding the company, President Kent Lewis instituted an annual Charity of Choice program where Formic donates its online marketing expertise to one charity organization for an entire year. However, Lewis thought the company could do more, so Formic added a quarterly cash donation to the Charity of Choice program this year. Started in the 2nd quarter of 2011, the Charity of Choice program has helped Dining to Give, SMART (Start Making A Reader Today) and now the Oregon Food Bank. Formic plans to continue the cash donations in the years to come.
Oregon Food Bank has been fighting hunger for 30 years. Last year the OFB Network of Regional Food Banks set a record and distributed 81 million pounds of food to hungry families throughout the state. Without the help from donors and the volunteer community, much of what Oregon Food Bank does wouldn’t be possible. In 2010-2011 alone, volunteers donated 117,000 hours of time, which would be comparable to 56 full-time employees.
“We’re happy to provide support to our community to ensure that families are being nourished appropriately. With the holidays upon us, it was very important to the Formic team that we do something to help,” added John McPhee, Formic Media Vice President. "Formic will continue its commitment to the local community by offering pro bono services, volunteering time outside of work and making charitable donations to those in need."
