Spring Texas Garage Door Specialist Alerts Homeowners to Recent Home Robberies Through Garage Doors
Joe King, owner of Lone Star Overhead Doors Spring, TX says careless homeowners may be helping thieves burglarize their homes without being aware of it.
Spring, TX, December 24, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Spring, Texas garage door specialist says many Texas homeowners may be making it possible for thieves to burglarize their homes without realizing they were doing so.
Joe King, owner of Lone Star Overhead Doors of Spring, Texas (http://www.springtxgaragedoorrepair.com) was reacting to recent reports from law enforcement officials across the country that thieves have been gaining access to homes through garage doors.
Police departments this week, reported an increase in robberies. The thieves gain access to the homes using garage door remote controls left in cars parked on driveways.
King said residents need to stop leaving their remote controls in their cars or put them in secure locations in order to stop the thieves.
“It is really not hard to do. All homeowners or residents need to do is hide their remote control. Leaving it in plain view in the car is not the right thing to do. Do not leave it in your car at the end of the day,” the Spring TX garage door specialist said yesterday.
Police departments and Sheriff Deputies around the nation say it is not surprising that the number of these home burglaries is increasing.
"I would say it's more than a coincidence that it is the same method of getting in the house each time," said Sgt. Cindi West of the King County Sheriff’s Office in Washington State.
Thieves would vandalize cars parked on driveways while families sleep to gain access to the garage door remote controls. “Once they have the remote control, it is just a question of clicking the button and they are in the house,”Sgt. Cindy West added.
Seattle, WA area resident, Dave Neale's house was recently burglarized. He said the thieves went into his car, found the garage door remote and in seconds were inside his home where they stole credit and debit cards.
They became scared when the family dog began barking. Neale’s family was asleep in an upstairs bedroom at that time.
Neale advised homeowners and residents to take their garage door remote controls with them. “Take your garage door openers out of your car. This is not a new trend. It's happened for many years," she said.
Joe King said that is a good advice and Spring, Texas residents need to heed it. “That is what homeowners really need to do to stop these thieves. Take your garage door remote control with you. Don’t leave it in your car,” he added.
