Samurai Karate Studio Collects Blankets for Homeless

Sensei Chris Feldt, owner and chief instructor for Samurai Karate Studio, located in Richland Northeast, Columbia, South Carolina, recently announced that his school collected gently used blankets during the month of December and passed them out to the local homeless on Christmas Eve.

Columbia, SC, January 01, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Sensei Chris Feldt, owner and chief instructor for Samurai Karate Studio, located in Richland Northeast Columbia, South Carolina, recently announced that his school held a gently used blanket drive during the month of December and several of his students handed out the blankets during Christmas Eve to the local homeless of Columbia.

The project was led by SKS student, Randy Baccomo, a red belt who is passionate about helping the homeless. "I really worry about the homeless during the cold winter months," commented Baccomo, "the temperatures at night can get really cold and I can only imagine how difficult it is to keep warm outdoors!"

South Carolina's economy has gotten worse as the national economy has faltered. Unemployment continues to remain high in South Carolina and many people have no where to turn to other than the streets.

"Most of the people we handed out blankets to, were just regular people like you and me, " stated Baccomo, "most just lost their jobs and ran out of money to keep their house so they lost everything. I was glad we could give them this small, but important gift of warmth on such a cold night."

Samurai Karate Studio teaches a traditional style of karate to children and adults, beginning at ages 4 and up. It's curriculum includes project based leadership, through community service projects like the one described above.
