Glacier Nordic Club Hits the Trails with Whitefish Credit Union
Whitefish Credit Union recently donated to the Glacier Nordic Club's Junior Jets and Chet Hope Youth League, programs that focus on teaching young people in the area how to cross country ski.
Whitefish, MT, January 08, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Whitey McFish probably won’t cross country ski through Whitefish Lake Golf Course any time soon, but local kids will, thanks in part to a generous donation from Whitefish Credit Union.
Montana’s largest credit union is providing funding for scholarships and new equipment to Glacier Nordic Club’s Junior Jets and Chet Hope Youth League programs. Since 1979, the Glacier Nordic Club has been teaching local children between the ages of 4 and 18 to ski, said Cameron Blake, Glacier Nordic Club board member.
“This donation is an incredible boost to the program in terms of allowing us to have more equipment,” she said. “It’s a big investment for people to have to go out and purchase it themselves, and the kids typically outgrow it in a year or two. Having more equipment for us to rent allows the program to give more people an opportunity to enjoy it and participate.”
The Chet Hope Youth League teaches children the basics of cross country skiing, while the Junior Jets program provides them with more advanced nordic instruction. The non-profit organization often provides lessons to more than 100 children at meet-ups during the season. Instilling a love of cross country skiing and the outdoors fits well with the Credit Union’s mission, according to Whitefish Credit Union President and CEO, Jim Kenyon.
“Whitefish Credit Union is happy to have the opportunity to assist with such a worthwhile project,” he said. “Our future rests in our children so let’s keep them active and involved, both mentally and physically, in the northwest Montana lifestyle that we all enjoy. All we need now is the snow!”
