DynCorp International Provides Special Touch to Holiday Season for Military Children in-Need
DynCorp International donates 3,000 Apple iPod Touch Devices to the USO, benefiting military families in-need during the holiday season.
Falls Church, VA, January 08, 2012 --(PR.com)-- DynCorp International wrapped a special gift this holiday season: 3,000 iPod Touch devices donated to USO chapters in the metropolitan Washington, DC area and in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area.
On December 15, USO of Metropolitan Washington distributed 1,600 DynCorp International-donated iPod Touch devices at USO-Metro events held as part of USO-Metro’s annual “Project Elf.”
Through Project Elf, area companies, organizations and families can register to "sponsor" a local military child. DynCorp International donated one device for every child over the age of seven who was sponsored through the program. Ashley Vanarsdall Burke, vice president of communications at DI., volunteered at the Fort Belvoir event, handing out each iPod Touch as fast as she could.
“This [Project Elf] is such a great program,” said Burke to a USO reporter. “Our company is made up of more than 60 percent veterans, so anywhere we can reach back out to the military community and make a difference, we are there,” she added. “The USO is a great organization and programs like this are truly making an impact. We’re proud to be a part of it.”
DynCorp International also donated an additional 1,400 devices in the Dallas-Ft. Worth location to help support military families near DI’s Texas offices.
Facebook Messages of Gratitude
Several service members and their families thanked DynCorp International for its donations in messages on the USO-Metro Facebook page:
“Thank you USO and a "high five" to my "elf" who bought my daughter awesome gifts! And the iPod from DynCorp was an amazing surprise! I am soo grateful for everything you all did for my family this Christmas! I def plan on paying it forward as soon as I can!”
