U.S. Financial Management Celebrates Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day
San Diego, CA, May 09, 2007 --(PR.com)-- U.S. Financial Management welcomed approximately eighteen children ranging in age from seven to thirteen at their San Diego headquarters on Wednesday, April 26th for the fifteenth annual Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day ®.
This day is held each year to enrich the lives of the employee’s children by allowing them to perceive the daily issues and pressures their parents face, while they explore the workplace environment.
The theme this year was "Revolutionizing the Workplace," and the students enjoyed a range of activities, including “Conversation Café,” which enabled them to envision their futures. Another activity was “Ask the Adults,” which allowed the children to interview several company employees to learn about their daily experiences coping with work and home.
Community projects coordinator, Dawn Grierson presided over the day, monitoring the children and leading the activities. “It was exciting to see the young students share how they would handle the different scenarios. One of the things that stands out most is how many of the kids wish their parents did not have to work so hard because it gives less time for them. The students were also able to see the dedication it takes to have a job.”
The children were enthusiastic and eager to learn about their surrounding environment. They particularly enjoyed the “Framing Your Wish” activity, which involved cutting pictures from magazines to show their wish for their family and friends. The end result included a picture menagerie of fancy sports cars, football, electronics, chocolates, furniture, puppies, happy people, and flowers.
When the students asked what they had learned throughout the course of the day, several immediately volunteered. “I have learned that as a manager, you have to have teamwork and get along with your workers,” Melissa said.
Tavius expressed his newfound knowledge, “I learned that adults work really hard.”
Another student, DaShawn Jr., voiced his excitement, “I want to come back next year because its fun coming to work with my dad.”
The day was nicely summed up by Anna, as she exited the “classroom,” “It was super duper! Fantastic.”
This was the second year in a row that U.S. Financial Management has hosted Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day®.
