Washington, D.C., Atlanta Home Owners Enjoy Twice as Much Living Space as New York City Home Owners
New York, NY, January 10, 2012 --(PR.com)-- According to an analysis by PropertyShark.com of 20 major U.S. Cities, home owners in Washington, D.C., Atlanta and Austin are enjoying on average the most living space. PropertyShark is a NY-based property search and foreclosure listings website.
The average home size in Washington, D.C. is 2,237 square feet, which places the capital on the top of the list, with Atlanta trailing in second place with an average home size of 2,074 square feet, and Austin, Texas’ capital city, in third place with an average home size of 1,979 square feet.
New York City (all the five boroughs) is placed at the bottom of the list of 20, with an average home size of 1,124 square feet, almost half the average size of a home in Washington D.C. and Atlanta.
Its north-eastern neighbor, Boston, is next-to-last on the list with an average home size of 1,250 square feet.
With an average home size of 1,895 square feet, home owners in California’s largest city, Los Angeles, enjoy one of the largest living spaces among the 20 cities analyzed. However, Los Angeles County’s exclusive areas, Beverly Hills (3,884 square feet) and Malibu (2,998) are in a league of their own, with home sizes twice the size as in the City of Los Angeles.
The same can not be said about New York – while a home in Manhattan, New York’s most expensive borough, costs twice as much as one in Brooklyn and almost four times more than one in the Bronx, the average home size in Manhattan (1,226 square foot) is not significantly larger than the average in the outer boroughs.
