Indie Film Writer/Director Pens a Novel About a Teen’s Quest to Save an Advanced Underwater Race from Extinction

A flash storm catches fourteen-year old Ashton and his sister Autumn off guard while rowing off the rugged Oregon coast. The two terrified youngsters are drawn into a whirlpool, which seems certain to pull them to their deaths. But suddenly Ashton sees a bright light and in the blink of an eye he and his sister are back on the beach, shaken, confused, but very much alive. Was it actually a bioluminescent hand he saw under the boat, pushing them to safety? He begins to hear whispers calling his name, and is convinced he has been saved by a higher power, of this or another world.
British born author D.F. Marsh, an independent filmmaker, found inspiration in his story after experiencing a very vivid - and prophetic - dream as a teen. “The dream just stayed with me. After my daughter was born it became a favorite bedtime tale for her, embellished of course,” says Marsh.
Although categorized as YA/Fantasy Fiction, Indigo Empyrean, which means blue heaven, takes place in a contemporary setting. The fantasy element is painted in a way that begs the question: how can we disclaim its plausibility? The notion of the existence of intelligent life deep below the sea is a tradition long held by many of the world’s cultures.
In a world that could be described as Jules Verne meets Ursula K. Guin, D. F. Marsh has created a novel for a broad range of readers:
