Parents as Teachers Receives Continued Support from The Boeing Company
Recent grant from The Boeing Company will make Parents as Teachers training materials more accessible to early childhood education professionals.
St. Louis, MO, January 12, 2012 --(PR.com)-- St. Louis-based Parents as Teachers national office recently received a $50,000 grant from The Boeing Company, a longtime partner and contributor. This generous award will enable Parents as Teachers to host many of its training materials online, ensuring that parent educators have easy access to trainings that enable them to equip families with knowledge, resources and tools so their children grow up healthy, safe and ready to learn.
“So many children are showing up one, two or three years behind their peers when they start kindergarten,” says Joyce Walters, who directs education and workforce initiatives for Boeing Global Corporate Citizenship. “We wanted to address that issue by providing support for parents and others who are caring for young children, so they can maximize the learning opportunities in the early years to help get kids ready for school and for life.”
Since partnering with Parents as Teachers in 2005, Boeing has donated more than $350,000 to the organization, helping to develop materials for serving immigrant and refugee children, expanding math and science curricula, and providing scholarships that allow parent educators to attend valuable training. Boeing also served as a partner in the Heroes at Home project, an initiative that provided Parents as Teachers services to active-duty families at 36 military installations across the country.
“We are grateful for Boeing’s continued contributions to early childhood education,” says Cheryle Dyle-Palmer, executive vice president and COO of Parents as Teachers. “As a company, Boeing emphasizes the value of improving lives and communities through corporate citizenship, and we know that their investment in education will yield long-term results as today’s children learn and grow to become tomorrow’s workforce.”
Leading health, education and social service organizations seek out Parents as Teachers curricula and training because of its flexibility and easy integration with their own services. Parents as Teachers offers parent educators practical, hands-on applications for young children and families in real-world situations.
