"This unique relationship with the SPPL gives the podcast direct access to the best scenario tournament paintball action available. We're proud to provide a high quality, reliable paintball podcast," said Wayne Montle, host of Blast Radius Woodsball Podcast. "Our listeners are going to be thrilled with this news."
The SPPL has a growing number of participants and fans across North America and the world. The tournament consists of Qualifier events held in eight states, followed by a national championship tournament at the world-famous Oklahoma D-Day field in October. Each of the outdoor paintball events attracts the best scenario paintball teams.
Blast Radius Woodsball Podcast is independently produced by Wayne Montle of Boulder, Colorado. Montle has been playing paintball since 1990, and began creating the podcast in July 2006. He hosts each episode, which provides interviews, reviews, and commentary on recreational and scenario paintball. A podcast is similar to a radio show available on the internet. Listeners can subscribe for free and listen to episodes on an mp3 player or computer. Blast Radius Woodsball Podcast is freely available through www.blastradiuswoodsballpodcast.com, and can be found on iTunes and other podcast directories. A new episode of Blast Radius Woodsball Podcast is released three times each month.
SPPL Director, Rory McCarthy, and Jayson Orvis of Special Ops Paintball created the "3-Flag" format and launched the SPPL in 2005. Teams of ten players compete in 60-minute "3-flag" games where teams "take and hold" the flag stations earning points for each full minute they hold the base from the opposing team. Teams are also awarded thirty (30) points each for finding and returning 3 possible "Capture Objectives" hidden on the field to their team commander. The top-ranked teams from each of the eight events then goes on to compete in the national championship tournament. The SPPL awards prize packages to top placing teams in addition to a Sportsmanship Award that carries a prize package at least as valuable as first place.
Blast Radius Woodsball Podcast will have an exclusive interview with the Director of the league after each qualifier weekend. This will provide listeners up-to-date and reliable reports of the games at the event as well as overall progress of the tournament.
"The SPPL is excited to have the Blast Radius Woodsball Podcast as our exclusive voice media sponsor. This relationship will allow the SPPL to quickly update our participants and those interested in the SPPL on event scores, news and rule updates all while staying in tune to the latest news in grassroots Woods/Scenario paintball," said McCarthy. "If you're into woodsball then you need to add Blast Radius Woodsball Podcast to your "subscribe" list!"
"Safety and sportsmanship have always been a focus in the podcast. Having fun is an important part of the sport," Montle said. "Sportsmanship is a major factor in the SPPL, so this is a great fit."
The 2006 SPPL season saw a 300% increase in participation over the previous year. Qualifier games were held in Oregon, Utah, Oklahoma, Michigan, and Georgia. The growth of the SPPL continues in the 2007 season, adding Qualifiers in California and Pennsylvania. The League is sponsored by Tippmann Sports, VForce, Draxxus, Site Manufacturing, Advanced Paintball Electronics, Hoffmann Paintball, Atomic Ordnance, Tiberius Arms, Paintball Sports Magazine, Splat Magazine, and SpecialOps Paintball.
