Namaste Hospice is Introducing a Unique Palliative Care Program

Denver, CO, January 19, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Namaste Hospice is introducing a Palliative Care Program to complement the high quality, compassionate hospice care it currently delivers to the Denver Metro Community.

The Personal Empowerment Program (PEP) is a personalized program designed to transform fear and powerlessness over a life-limiting illness into knowledge, comfort, and freedom of choice. The time remaining in one’s life need not be a time of physical or emotional pain and suffering - and Namaste’s goal is to help patients and their families achieve the highest quality of life they can through deciding how they want to face this experience.

“Following the diagnosis of a potentially life-limiting disease, people experience many emotions ranging from fear to confusion and helplessness. They are often overwhelmed, and don’t recognize the many options available. Yet, people with a terminal diagnosis still have a lot of living to do,” said Jan Bezuidenhout, President and Founder of Namaste. “Our PEP program is designed to address those emotions along with the management of symptoms to help people choose what is best for them from what we believe is an abundant universe of possibility,” she concluded.

The PEP program focuses first on managing difficult physical symptoms associated with a serious illness. These services are provided by a highly qualified physician or nurse practitioner. One must be comfortable in order to fully engage with the next step of the process, which involves deep internal exploration, coupled with information and education. This unique aspect of the program is a carefully crafted four-step accountability model in which patients and families are encouraged to stop, look, choose, and act in order to make choices that create quality of life at the end of life on their own terms. At the completion of the program, the patient and family will be able to identify major issues, make choices to achieve their goals, and initiate the changes that support comfort, dignity, and quality of life. All Namaste programs consider the patient and family to be the experts, and we are committed to helping them create a plan for the way they want to spend the time they have left. The psycho-educational aspect of Namaste’s Palliative Care Program is facilitated by a licensed social worker.
