Doug Shear to Perform Lip Service Stories at Actor’s Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre
On January 28, 2012, Doug Shear will be performing at the Lip Service Stories writing/performance mash-up event at the Actor’s Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre in downtown Coral Gables, Florida.
Miami, FL, January 19, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The Lip Service event is held quarterly and attracts an audience of well over three hundred people. The previous two shows sold out their $15 tickets. In addition to the live event, Lip Service is aired on Under the Sun, WLRN (91.3 FM). It also has a monthly column in City Link Magazine and recently debuted as a television show on WPBT (Channel 2).
Doug Shear will be reading a humorous but poignant piece about his inter-ethnic, inter-faith marriage. This will be his second appearance at Lip Service Stories.
Producers Andrea Askowitz and Esther Martinez choose from hundreds of submissions to put together an evening of readings that may be sad, thoughtful, funny, or sexy. The first event of the year surrounds the theme: Culture Clash.
Doug Shear is the author of the cult novel Rhubarb Culture, set in a Miami in the near future, in which a Survivalist and his Suicidal girlfriend escape the Police, Corporate Thugs and a New Age Suicide Cult. His second book, American Karma – Twilight of the Marijuana Gods, is based on his real life experience as the victim of the most notorious Get Rich Quick scam of the twentieth century. His stage play Saint Peter at the Gate was produced in Toronto, Canada and Boca Raton, Florida. It's about four victims of a car accident who try to convince Saint Peter to let them through Heaven's Pearly Gate. His writings have also appeared in the Miami Herald, New Times and the now defunct Mike Shayne Mystery Magazine. Recently he performed A Loophole in Law of Karma at the Life Out Loud event held in Ybor City, Florida. To blow off steam, he performs comedy at seedy local clubs that he would never visit as a patron.
Producer/Storyteller Andrea Askowitz is the author of My Miserable, Lonely Lesbian Pregnancy. Her work has appeared in various publications including The New York Times. She teaches memoir writing at Miami Dade College and the Lip Service Institute.
Producer/Storyteller Esther Martinez is a graduate student in MFA at FIU. Her work has appeared in various publications including Newsday and the Daily Beast. Esther will be hosting this installment of Lip Service.
Additional storytellers include J. Robert Barnes, Karen-Eileen Gordon, Manuel Martinez, Melanie Merriman, Jill Slaugher, Jeffrey Weinstock and Andrea Askowitz.
