HBCUs and NPHC Greeks Face-Off for an Amazing Cause
1st Annual Mahogany Games to Benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters
Orlando, FL, May 11, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBS), the oldest, largest and most effective youth mentoring organization in the United States, and The HBCU Network are joining forces to promote awareness and recruit more African-American “Big Brothers” during the 2007 Mahogany Games on Saturday, May 26, 2007 at Kissimmee Lakefront Park in Kissimmee, FL from 11 am – 5 pm.
During the Mahogany Games, the Ultimate Black College & Greek Face-Off, attendees from all over the south east will compete in various games, including kickball, flag football, arm-wrestling, tug-of-War, 3-legged race, obstacle course, last man standing, Greek stroll-off, school spirit competition, and beach volleyball. Not only will participants have a chance to meet, greet and compete, but to serve a greater purpose either by registering as a BBBS volunteer or making a donation.
Participants can register on-line (www.mahoganygames.com) as an individual or as part of a team. A percentage of proceeds will support Big Brothers Big Sisters of America’s commitment to helping children reach their potential through professionally supported, one-to-one relationships with mentors that have a measurable impact on youth.
“An event of this nature is the perfect means for promoting youth mentoring in the community, especially in the Central Florida area,” explains Aaron Wockenfuss, Partnership Development Manager for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Florida. “Many of these participants are college graduates and are members of distinguished sororities or fraternities. It’s a powerful group to have promoting your organization and I’m confident that we’ll find some great volunteers among them.”
The event is sponsored by Goody®, Mid-Eastern Atlantic Conference (MEAC), Orlando Professionals, and the AUC Magazine.
“There’s never been an event that celebrates our unique community and environment while encouraging friendly competition,” explains Tamara Oyejide, CEO of The HBCU Network. “This event brings together an effort to raise awareness while promoting good causes.”
