About Igor F. Palacios
Igor F. Palacios, M.D., is the Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and the Director of Interventional Cardiology at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Palacios received his M.D., Magna Cum Laude, from the Central University of Venezuela and completed training in rotating internships in medicine and cardiology at the University Hospital in Caracas before moving to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Dr. Palacios is an internationally recognized expert in the field of interventional cardiology.
His activities have included editorship of peer-reviewed journals such as Circulation, Journal of Cardiac Catheterization and Interventions and the Journal of Interventional Cardiology. He has received numerous awards for distinguished service to medicine and the community in Venezuela, Latin America and the U.S. He was presented with the Gran Cordon del Libertador Award in Venezuela, which is the highest honor granted by the Republic of Venezuela. He is an Elected Professor of Interventional Cardiology at the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina. Dr. Palacios is the recipient of the Clinician of the Year award from his colleagues in university practice and has been recognized as one of the Best Doctors in the U.S. by Woodward/White, Inc. for over 10 years. Dr. Palacios received an award from the City of Boston, Massachusetts in recognition and appreciation of outstanding contributions to the city and its residents. He has also been honored by the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for his outstanding professional and humanitarian service to the Latino community in Boston. Dr. Palacios is a founding member of the Latin American Society for Interventional Cardiology. He helped to establish multi-center cultural trials focusing on interventional cardiology throughout Latin America and has mentored many cardiologists. Dr. Palacios is published extensively, authoring over 250 papers and 24 book chapters. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, a member of the American Medical Association, the American Heart Association and an Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School.
