2nd Annual Jaimeson Jones Memorial 5K Trail Run/Walk - March 11, 2012
Run honors Jaimeson Jones, aged 20, of Bothell, Washington, who died of cancer October 7, 2010. Jaimeson ran cross-country at Bothell High and rowed crew at Washington State University. Run supports scholarships for students who have or had a sibling with cancer, because Jaimeson loved to learn, and because of his family’s personal experience of the economic consequences of cancer. Held at St. Edward State Park, Kenmore.
Bothell, WA, January 24, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Jaimeson Jones, of Bothell, Washington, was 14 in 2005 when he was stricken with Stage IV testicular cancer. Chemo and multiple surgeries put him into remission, and Jaimeson went on to run cross-country and track at Bothell High. By May of his freshman year at Washington State University in 2009, however, the cancer had returned, and Jaimeson died on October 7, 2010 at age 20.
In Jaimeson’s memory and honor, his family has established the Jaimeson Jones Memorial Scholarship at WSU to benefit students who have or had a sibling with cancer. This choice of recipient was spurred by Jaimeson’s love for learning, together with the family’s personal experience of the economic consequences of cancer, sometimes called “financial toxicity.”[i]
The trail run/walk will take place on March 11th at St. Edward State Park in Kenmore, Washington.
“Jaimeson always said that he loved to learn,” said his mother, Maureen Jones of Bothell. “He loved WSU and dearly wanted his sisters to be able to go to college, and he also knew what a toll his cancer took on the family’s finances. He would be so proud that his name is on this scholarship.”
