Shop For Change Donates 25 Percent of All Profits

A stay at home mom has started the online retail store Shop For Change as a way of giving back and teaching her kids the value of helping others.

Covington, GA, January 30, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Shop For Change has launched at http://www.s4change.com and will offer their customers new, used, remade and handmade items. Each month, a charity is chosen which will receive, as a donation, one quarter of all profits from that month.

After being laid off while seven months pregnant with her first child, Melissa Peterson of Covington, GA, has decided to try to take her financial future into her own hands. Now pregnant with her second child, she needed a way to bring back in that second income, but didn’t want to give up being a full time mom. “I think it’s so important that a parent be with the children as much as possible, whenever possible,” she said. After years of selling on eBay and with a passion for remaking and hand making items, she thought “why not try to open my own store?”

As much as Melissa wanted to stay at home with her children and as much as she needed the income, she also wanted a way to give back to the world. “As tight as times have gotten, we are making it through. I feel so lucky to have a roof over my head, food on the table and a loving family. I know I need to give back in thanks for that.” She also wants to make sure her children grow up knowing the importance of helping others and being grateful for what you have.

And so, Shop For Change was born. Melissa decided it couldn’t hurt to try. Shop For Change carries a wide variety of items including clothes, jewelry, books, home décor and much more. It is a mix of new, used, remade and handmade items. “Hopefully one day it will be a one stop shop for people to find everything they want and need,” she explained. Not only can you purchase items you want or need from Shop For Change, you can feel good about your purchases knowing 25% of the profits are being donated to charity.

“I know Shop For Change will take time to grow, but I am certain it will succeed.” Melissa continued adamantly by saying, “No matter how large Shop For Change gets, our main mission will be to give back to others.” Shop For Change will work up to donating 50% of all profits in the future. “Starting this on a limited budget, I need to make sure I can put enough money back into the business in order to offer a wide variety of products.” Melissa explains, “But as Shop For Change grows, so will the amount we give to charity.”
