To Kill or to Be Killed? My Brother’s Keeper Published by Outskirts Press

Poet and novelist A. J. Farris takes readers on a suspenseful journey back to the day of his protagonist’s birth to discover how the past and present merge and answer the question: was this a cold-blooded murder or a killing in self-defense?

Albuquerque, NM, February 01, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Author A. J. Farris announced today the release of My Brother’s Keeper, published by Outskirts Press. Farris’s debut novel gives protagonist Morgan Sheldon a split second to decide if he should take the life of another human being; but he has a whole lifetime to sort through to in order to convince the police that it may have been an act of self-defense, not calculated murder.

Morgan Sheldon is a successful author, a devoted husband and a loving father, but the two homicide detectives who question him after the death are not buying his claim that it was self-defense. Morgan’s account of the event is so distorted that no one can tell what really happened in that dark, vacant lot on a cold January night.

Morgan finds he must take a journey all the way back to the night he was born in order to even start to unravel the events that led up to that one fateful night. Along the way he discovers true love, the reason for his passion to write and, ultimately, how he took on the role of his brother’s keeper.

As a boy, author Farris’s own passion for writing was first channeled into trying to compose the perfect love letter to the girl he had a crush on in third grade. Although that literary enterprise ended in disaster, Farris went on as a teenager to create a series of poems and short stories, the last of which was entitled “Shattered Images.” As an adult, he had to place writing on a back burner, but twenty years later he took up where he left off and expanded “Shattered Images” into this, his first novel, My Brother’s Keeper.

“The passion for writing I thought I had lost forever,” Farris says, “resurrected itself with a vengeance.”
