Registration Opens for Local Home School Conference

Home educators will flock to the Eastern Panhandle for the annual conference to be held at Covenant Church in rural Shepherdstown, West Virginia on Saturday, March 24. Registration is now open and the workshop schedule is firming up.

Shepherdstown, WV, February 06, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The Eastern Panhandle Home School Conference (EPHSC) is now accepting registrations for its annual conference on Saturday, March 24 at Covenant Church near Shepherdstown.

Registration for the one-day event is $25 and includes a keynote speaker, educational workshops throughout the day, a catered lunch, access to the vendor hall and used curriculum book sale, and the opportunity to network with homeschool experts and local homeschooling parents. Registration may be completed on-line at the group’s website www.ephsc.org/register.htm.

Conference Chairman Donna Bent says, “Homeschooling is a growing movement across the country and is well established in West Virginia’s eastern panhandle.” In fact, over 6,500 families in West Virginia home educate their children, with around 1,170 home schooled children in the Eastern Panhandle (source: West Virginia Home Educators Association). Bent added, “EPHSC is the only conference readily available to local home educators whether you’re a brand-new homeschooler just getting started or a long-time veteran looking for new ideas.”

The EPHSC is specially designed for parents of children in primary, elementary, middle or high school. Participants will have a choice of workshops which may include getting started in homeschooling or putting together a high school transcript, testing and portfolio review. Some sessions will cover areas like history, fine arts, writing and math; as well as apprenticeships, entrepreneurial mindsets, time management, and special needs children.

Denise Beaty coordinates the workshop sessions and said, “There is so much going on in the homeschooling world, it can be overwhelming. We like to provide a variety of interesting and helpful workshops. We have sessions specifically for those thinking about homeschooling and other sessions that give long-time homeschoolers a little boost. Everyone comes away from our conference with a renewed sense of purpose.”

The theme of this year’s conference is “Hidden Treasures” which is based on a Bible passage from Proverbs 24 which says “By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established, through knowledge its room are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.”
