Inner City and At-Risk Youth Across the Country Hit the Slopes

Reno, NV, February 08, 2012 --(PR.com)-- This weekend inner-city and at-risk youth from across the country were buckling and lacing up their ski and snowboard boots for their first day on the slopes. Thanks to a collaboration of snow sport organizations from coast to coast, more than 300 disadvantaged children and teens experienced the joys of skiing and snowboarding, many for their first time ever.

Elizabeth Royster, Founder and Executive Director of Shred Love (a New Jersey based non-profit organization that teaches inner city youth life lessons and values through snowboarding) introduced the idea of a collaborative national ski and snowboard day to similar organizations serving youth through winter sports. One by one, several other charitable organizations climbed aboard for the snowy winter event.

“While we’re all in different parts of the country with slightly different mission statements, we all have a common passion for sharing our love of skiing and snowboarding with kids who may otherwise never have the opportunity to experience the beauty and inspiration of the mountains,” said Clint Lunde, Founder of Lake Tahoe-based SkiDUCK. “This weekend SkiDUCK is hosted nearly 150 amazing kids at Squaw Valley, Kirkwood, Mt. Rose and Tahoe Donner in the Lake Tahoe area, and many more kids at these and other resorts throughout the season.”

From an introduction to skiing or snowboarding to year-round youth mentoring programs, these organizations will serve roughly 1,500 disadvantaged, inner-city and at-risk youth across 11 states. Participating organizations include RezRiders (Albuquerque, NM), Shred Love (NJ), SkiDUCK (Lake Tahoe), SkiJamin (San Jose, CA), Snowdays Foundation (Portland, OR) and The Service Board (Seattle, WA).
