Woodlands Local Launches Tutoring Company
Woodlands Affordable Tutoring has been launched in The Woodlands by a local woman who has lived in area for over 25 years. The company provides one-on-one tutoring through local, background-checked tutors for all ages and nearly all subjects, including foreign language, mathematics, writing, grammar, sciences, and standardized test preparation.
The Woodlands, TX, February 10, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Mrs. Andrea T. Balfour (Woodyard) announced today that Woodlands Affordable Tutoring is now ready to serve The Woodlands, Shenandoah, Oak Ridge, Conroe, Magnolia, and Tomball area students. The motto at Woodlands Affordable Tutoring is “for knowledge, understanding, and self-confidence.” The team of tutors, who have a range of backgrounds from exceptional high school students to Ph.D.’s and certified teachers, offer tutoring services for students of all ages, elementary school through adult. Subjects include one-on-one in-home tutoring for foreign languages, mathematics, writing, grammar, sciences, standardized test preparation, and study skills.
Mrs. Balfour, a mother of four children under 7, first came to The Woodlands as Andrea Woodyard in August, 1985 when her father was transferred with the Department of Veteran Affairs to be the Construction Coordinator for the new VA Hospital to be built in Houston. Moving from the state of Maryland at the age of 13, she wasn’t sure what Texas held in store and began 9th grade at J.L. McCullough High School amidst a lot of kids that had known each other for years.
Mrs. Balfour graduated in the top 10% of her class which afforded her the opportunity to attend her first choice of colleges, Texas A&M University. It didn’t take long to figure out that “Aggieland” seemed to be created of something magical. Those who describe the school as a cult are nothing short of right, but not in a bad sense; the school and its faculty and students draw you in and you’re a part of something much larger than yourself. Mrs. Balfour graduated with a B.A. in English with minors in Mathematics and Spanish (as well as an undeclared minor in Bonfire appreciation.)
Mrs. Balfour returned to The Woodlands after college and began working for American Rice, Inc., a local rice manufacturer/distributor in the IT and then marketing departments. She later moved to the marketing department at PROS Revenue Management, an enterprise software company in Houston. During her time at PROS, Andrea studied at The University of Houston where she received her M.B.A. in Marketing. In 2000, she married Matthew Balfour of Houston, whom she met while attending Texas A&M.
Returning to The Woodlands once again, Mrs. Balfour and her husband and their first child, bought their current home in Alden Bridge where they’ve been for almost 8 years, less than 2 miles from her parents. Mrs. Balfour’s recalls her father always reminding her, “The Woodlands is a great place to raise your children.” For six years now, and three children later, Mrs. Balfour has tutored students of a variety of ages in various disciplines while also doing some marketing consulting work.
To balance raising their growing family along with the desire to help even more students succeed in their studies, Mrs. Balfour knew that starting Woodlands Affordable Tutoring was the right move. “Tutoring brings such a feeling of satisfaction, especially when you see the student’s ‘a-ha moment’ and a rekindled passion for learning.
