Arnold Ursaner Elected to Friends of Karen Board of Directors
Arnold Ursaner, founder of CJS Securities, has joined the Board of children's charity Friends of Karen. Mr. Ursaner first learned about the charity two decades ago from friends whose child had a brain tumor. Says Ursaner, "When you learn about what Friends of Karen does, how can you not want to help?"
Purdys, NY, February 10, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Friends of Karen has announced that Arnold Ursaner has joined its Board of Directors. Mr. Ursaner and his wife Roberta have long been involved with charitable activities in Westchester and beyond – in fact, they met at a fundraising event. Their commitment to Friends of Karen began in the 1990s when Mr. Ursaner learned that the child of two college friends had a brain tumor, and that Friends of Karen was helping the family cope with this nightmare.
“This is an organization of dedicated professionals who guide families in crisis,” says Mr. Ursaner. “Friends of Karen has a unique approach, it is really family care in a way that is unprecedented. For this reason, it is my most significant charitable commitment. I am honored to join the Board and look forward to taking a greater role in helping this wonderful organization achieve its goals of meeting the emotional and financial needs of families with a critically-ill child.”
Mr. Ursaner has been on the boards of Purchase Community, Inc., Metropolis Country Club, and High 5 Tickets for the Arts. His Wall Street career includes positions at Bear Stearns, Credit Suisse First Boston, and Smith Barney. In 1997, he founded CJS Securities (named with the first initial of his three children’s names), an independent provider of research to institutional clients, focused on small cap stocks.
“I’m proud to be leading a board that is so pro-active, both for our sick children and in their communities,” says Beth Leventhal, president of Friends of Karen’s Board of Directors. “Arnie has a proven track record of being deeply involved in causes he believes in. I know he will be a meaningful member of our board to support Friends of Karen’s plans and growth.”
Adds Mr. Ursaner, “When you learn about what Friends of Karen does, how can you not want to help?”
Friends of Karen is the only organization that provides emotional, financial and advocacy support to families of a child with cancer or another life-threatening illness, from diagnosis through treatment. Since 1978, we have touched the lives of over 11,800 children in the New York Metro region. With compassion, dedication and expertise, Friends of Karen helps sustain the entire family during an overwhelmingly frightening, confusing and turbulent time.
Friends of Karen serves all qualified families without regard to race, religion, or national origin. For more information, visit www.FriendsOfKaren.org or call 914-617-4040.
