Wikicollecting.org Celebrates Its 1st Anniversary
The collector's website Wikicollecting.org, which celebrates its first birthday on February 13, has helped build a wide community of users in its initial 12 months.
Bristol, United Kingdom, February 12, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Wikicollecting.org, the free online collector’s encyclopaedia, celebrates its first birthday this week.
Launched in February 2011, the site has welcomed over 250,000 "Wikicollectors" in its first 12 months and built up a database covering more than 75 collecting categories.
Wikicollecting.org is an open-source site which enables users to add and edit pages, with the aim of creating the web’s biggest free resource for collectors. It also provides news on the auction markets and an international directory of collectibles dealers.
Simon Lindley, Project Manager at Wikicollecting.org, commented:
“It’s been a great first year for the site. The popularity of Wikicollecting shows that there are a lot of passionate, knowledgeable collectors out there, and we’ve built up a strong community of users who are keen to share their expertise and advice.
“We’d like to thank all the ‘Wikicollectors’ who’ve helped make the site what it is, and we’re looking forward to welcoming many more to the community in the years ahead.
“The aim of Wikicollecting is to create a site where collectors, experts, dealers and auction houses can come together and share information. It’s a long-term project, and its success over the past 12 months proves that Wikicollecting has already become an invaluable resource for collectors around the world.”
Over the past year Wikicollecting has launched a number of features, including profile pages which enable users to upload their collections and an extensive index of collecting clubs.
January also saw the site publish its first annual "Review of the Year," along with the results of its survey of 150,000 readers to find the world’s most popular collecting categories.
Wikicollecting is currently celebrating "Comic Book Month" with a series of exclusive interviews and articles, and the next 12 months will see the site partnering with some of the world’s top auction houses and publishers to expand its free encyclopaedia.
