The nearly $17 million development, designed to serve 800 students, includes a 95,668-square-foot elementary school and 14,090-square-foot attached library. New Century International Elementary School was designed to LEED Platinum standards and boasts an Energy Star Rating of 99. Both buildings include high-performance design elements, with daylighting, low-energy controlled lighting and a geothermal HVAC system for maximum energy conservation and sustainability. The installation of roof-mounted solar panels will allow the facility to be a “net-zero” building, one that generates more energy than it consumes. Total cost savings over the life of the building are estimated at more than $15 million.
