The Medal Play Golf Tour Indian Canyons North Results

Palm Springs, CA, February 16, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The Medal Play Golf Tour visited Indian Canyons in Palm Springs Sunday playing the North course. “We had a very exciting finish to the Silver Division today with an on course playoff,” commented tour director Blane Freytag. “The playoff was a first for this division and a great learning experience for the players on handling the pressure. We will be back to Indian Canyons in April to play the South course.”

Fred Miller of the Championship Division found his groove and went low to win the division by 6 shots. This is Fred’s second victory of the season. Richard Martin, Jacob Yousef and Tom Trainer all shot net 73’s forcing a scorecard playoff for 2nd and 3rd place. Martin won the playoff for 2nd while Yousef took 3rd leaving Trainer looking in.

For Eric Chambers of the Gold Division, the 3rd time is certainly the charm. Chambers, playing in his 3rd event exploded to a net 65 to blow the field away and earn a battlefield promotion to the Championship Division. Steve Vanve found his swing and 2nd place money with a net 70. Russell Gaston shot even par to cash 3rd place money on this day.

The day’s biggest drama belonged to the Silver Division. Greg Widman and John Maldonado battled and grinded to net 68’s leaving a title to settle. So back to hole #1 they went. Both players were shaky off the tee with Widman hitting into ground under repair and Maldonado pulling his drive left into trouble. Widman used his free drop to set up his second shot to the green while Maldonado caught a tree branch leaving him an awkward 3rd shot to the green. He pushed his 3rd shot into a greenside bunker to add to his troubles. After hitting it heavy out of the bunker and chipping on the green all Widman had to do was 3 put for the victory. Surprisingly, with the nerves he needed all 3 puts to secure the victory. Chuck Thomas took 3rd a shot back.

The tour returns to action at Hidden Valley in Norco on Sunday March 11th.
