Houston Tree Specialist Congratulates Harris County for Successful Arbor Day Tree Planting Competition
Ability Tree Experts’ Louis Flory says this demonstrates the County’s commitment to area urban development and tree maintenance.
Kingwood, TX, February 18, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Houston tree specialist, Louis Flory is congratulating the Harris County Flood Control District and Houston Area Forestry Council for successfully planting 1,300 trees in commemoration of the 2012 Arbor Day.
Flory is the owner of Kingwood, Texas based Ability Tree Experts (http://abilitytrees.com).
Flory said he was impressed that the organizations are making such efforts to replace trees lost to last summer’s severe drought.
“The Houston Area Urban Forestry Council and Harris County Flood Control District did wonderful job planting 1300 trees. I congratulate them for being so diligent in replacing the trees we lost to the drought,” Flory said earlier today.
He called on other cities and counties in Texas and surrounding states to emulate the efforts of these organizations.
“Other nearby cities and states ought to do the same thing. It is wonderful to see these efforts and I know other cities suffered the same faith as Houston, which lost hundreds of thousands of trees. We need to replant those trees,” he added.
About 130 volunteers braved cold temperatures this week to plant 1300 trees. The 13 teams competed to transform the Flood Control District stormwater detention basin site on Fallbrook Drive near West Sam Houston Parkway North.
The teams competed in various categories including professional, amateur and youth. The Memorial Outreach Bunch (MOB) Red and Blue teams took first and second places in the youth category.
"We are proud that we were able to plant 1,300 trees in less than ideal conditions," said Mickey Merritt, Bayou Region Urban Forestry Coordinator for the Texas Forest Service.
"We were also able to demonstrate to volunteers the proper way to plant trees, which will carry over to future tree plantings," he added.
Ability Tree Expert’s Louis Flory said he hopes others residents will seek to volunteer for this annual event in the future.
