Irish Elections - Gay Community Voting Intentions Revealed

In new market research of Ireland's gay and lesbian community, a strong likelihood to vote for Labour or Green parties is revealed in figures released for the first time.

Dublin, Ireland, May 19, 2007 --(PR.com)-- A general election takes place in Ireland on 24 May 2007.

New research undertaken by the leading international specialist gay marketing agency - Out Now Consulting - for Ireland’s most established lesbian and gay publication, GCN, reveals that Irish lesbian and gay voters show an above average likelihood to vote Labour in next week's Irish elections.

The generally dominant Irish political parties - Fianna Fail and Fine Gael - both score poorly with gay voters.

According to the editor of GCN, Brian Finnegan, the survey reveals highly relevant new information about the voting intentions of Ireland’s 200,000 lesbians and gay men.

“This is the first time the voting patterns of Ireland’s sizeable gay community have been measured and independently analysed,” said Finnegan. “They show that politicians have a lot to learn about Irish gays and lesbians.”

“This new Out Now research for GCN is a major leap forward in the knowledge base about the lives of Irish lesbians and gay men,” according to Ian Johnson, Managing Director of Out Now.

“We have analysed in depth a wealth of gay market research data including shopping habits, social attitudes and holiday plans as well as political opinions," said Johnson. "This new research also reveals lesbian and gay demographic market data for the first time and that will prove extremely useful and lead to a far better informed understanding of the market opportunities and social challenges that exist in Ireland’s gay communities.”

The full findings of the "Out Now GCN Ireland Gay Community Survey" are to be released next month.

Ireland lesbian and gay voting intentions are as follows:

Labour 20%

Greens 16%

Fianna Fail 11%

Fine Gael 7%

Progressive Democrats 6%
