Mims Distributing Company Partners with Baker Renewable Energy to Install Solar Rooftop System
Solar Roof Could Generate 400,00kWhrs of Energy Per Year
Raleigh, NC, February 24, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Chip Mims, CEO of Mims Distributing Company (http://www.mimsdist.com), a beer distributor that services a nine-county area in and around the Triangle, has announced that the company partnered with Baker Renewable Energy to install one of the largest private solar rooftop systems in Wake County. The roof, which features a photovoltaic rooftop net metering system, will allow the company to collect and utilize solar power onsite and reduce its lifetime commercial power grid consumption, ultimately saving Mims up to 400 MWhrs, or 400,000 kWhrs, of energy per year. This will offset approximately 20 percent of the building’s energy needs.
Mims Distributing moved into a new 144,000 square foot facility in October and placed an emphasis on building an ecologically-friendly building. In addition to the creation of the solar roof, Mims installed energy-efficient high-performance insulation, cooling and lighting systems, and reused materials such as irrigation piping. The facility minimizes water consumption by utilizing a smart storm water retention strategy, featuring a bio-retention pond, the installation of low water use plumbing fixtures and the strategic landscaping of drought-tolerant plants and shrubs.
Quotes:
“We are excited about the long-term financial and green benefits of this rooftop system – it fits perfectly with what we’re trying to accomplish in terms of lowering operational costs and reducing our environmental impact,” said Mims. “It’s great to be able to tell our brewers and customers that we can deliver quality products and services while still minimizing our carbon signature in so many ways because of this expansion.”
“We are pleased to be working with the Mims Distributing leadership team on its new headquarters,” said John Matthews, executive vice president of Baker Roofing and the president of Baker Renewable Energy. “The Mims family was wholly committed to making a long-term investment that would increase their energy efficiency, which was top of mind for them when considering the implications of their growth.”
Details:
- Mims Distributing also partnered with Prime Building, HagerSmith PA and First Citizens Bank on the building.
