Natrona Heights Presbyterian Church Installs AEDs
Natrona Heights Presbyterian Church becomes "Heart Safe" with the installation of two (2) AEDs from NewHouse Medical.
Natrona Heights, PA, May 18, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Natrona Heights Presbyterian Church, founded in 1864, has taken another progressive step towards the safety of their members when two (2) Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) were installed on Friday by NewHouse Medical. NewHouse is a brand-independent solutions provider that assists in the design, development and implementation of public access AED programs.
Public access AEDs are used to treat sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), a condition caused by abnormal heart rhythms called arrhythmias. Victims of SCA collapse and quickly lose consciousness, often without warning. Unless a normal heart rhythm is restored, death will follow within a matter of minutes.
“Natrona Heights Presbyterian Church is setting a great example for the rest of the country. Public access AEDs should be available at every church and public facility,” said Vince Mosesso, Jr., MD, FACEP, associate professor of emergency medicine, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, medical director prehospital care, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, medical director, Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association. “With a complete AED system available for less than $1,000, there is no excuse for the lack of this life-saving equipment.”
“As the age of our congregation increases, we felt it necessary and prudent to install at least one AED in our church facility,” said Ray Kerr, President of the Board of Deacons and Co-Chairman of the Technology Committee. “It provides peace of mind to know that if a heart attack were to occur – we’re prepared.”
"As a member of this church, I commend the Board on their decision to purchase an AED," said Jason Heffran, Managing Partner and CEO of NewHouse Medical. "In response, our company donated a second AED so as to not leave one area of the facility unprotected. I feel it was the right thing to do."
