Erie Art Museum to Launch New Film Series Curated by Filmmaker John C. Lyons
Erie, PA, February 25, 2012 --(PR.com)-- A brand new initiative this summer, FILM at the Erie Art Museum is scheduled for Wednesday evenings starting at 8 p.m. in the Museum’s Multipurpose Room. A kick-off event will be held Wednesday, June 6, 2012 in collaboration with the recently established non-profit, the Film Society of Northwestern Pennsylvania.
FILM at the Erie Art Museum is a celebration of the social and cultural experience of cinema. Curated by filmmaker John C. Lyons, the weekly series will showcase an eclectic program of quality films and be a place for cinephiles and casual viewers alike to gather, enjoy, and discuss.
FILM at the Erie Art Museum seeks to foster awareness and appreciation of the art of film and to broaden the access to less commercial productions.
“As an independent filmmaker I believe the role of Film Festivals and Film Series are now more important than ever for audiences and artists alike,” says series curator John C. Lyons. “As costs continue to rise for major studio productions, chain theaters are forced to raise ticket prices and show mainstream blockbusters on more screens, leaving less room for auteurs and independent voices. Our new series will be a great alternative for those looking for more options in their film viewing experience.”
There is no admission charge for the film series, but a $5 donation is suggested. Beer, wine, and snacks will be available for purchase at the Museum. The film series’ summer program will be announced in the coming weeks.
More information on FILM at the Erie Art Museum can be found on the FILM at the Erie Art Museum facebook page, and on the Museum’s website, erieartmuseum.org. For questions and sponsorship opportunities, email FILM@erieartmuseum.org.
