Faculty of 1000's "Faculty Member of the Year 2011" Awards
Faculty of 1000 announces the first in a series of awards marking the achievements of its Faculty members.
London, United Kingdom, February 25, 2012 --(PR.com)-- To celebrate the dedication of thousands of the world's top scientists in identifying the critical literature in their research disciplines, Faculty of 1000 (F1000) is delighted to announce the first in a series of awards for Faculty Members: the F1000 Faculty Member of the Year awards.
An award will be presented to one member from each of the 32 Faculties who, in the opinion of the Judges and Heads of Faculty, has made the most significant contribution to their specialty area in 2011.
The F1000 Faculty consists of over 10,000 global experts in biology and medicine who are highly respected in their chosen fields and nominated to F1000 by their peers. Six Nobel Prize winners, 81 Fellows of The Royal Society, 12 Lasker Prize winners, 136 members of NAS, and 104 members of the Institute of Medicine belong to F1000's Faculty. Together with their more junior research associates, Faculty Members identify, rate and evaluate the most important research articles for inclusion in F1000's core database. In 2011, the Faculty as a whole submitted over 12,000 evaluations, contributing to the searchable database that now includes over 115,000 of the best papers that biological and medical research has to offer.
Sarah Greene, F1000 Editor-in-Chief said, "Scholarly publishing is being re-invented in the digital era, and post-publication peer review has finally begun to prove itself as central to the transformation. This would not have been possible without the dedication of the world’s top scientists who joined F1000 to provide evaluations of articles that impact their research. We thank the entire Faculty for their insightful contributions these past 10 years, and applaud the award winners for their superb analyses of critical research in 2011."
