DIRTT Named One of Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies
Calgary, Canada, February 25, 2012 --(PR.com)-- DIRTT Environmental Solutions was named one of Canada’s 2011 Best Managed Companies on February 21, 2012. This prestigious national award is sponsored by Deloitte, CIBC, National Post, and Queen’s School of Business.
DIRTT (Doing It Right This Time) is an award-winning Calgary-based manufacturer of custom modular architectural interiors including walls, power, data, millwork and low-access flooring. DIRTT uses ICE® 3D technology software for the design, specification and manufacturing of its interiors, eliminating human error and reducing waste while making previously impossible projects possible.
The company was named Best Managed due to a unique corporate culture that drives the company forward; DIRTT operates on a level playing field which encourages all employees to step up to the plate and drive innovation and performance, regardless of position or rank. Under this mode, the company demonstrated impressive financial performance throughout several years of recession, with a year-over-year growth over five years of 41.5%.
DIRTT founder Mogens Smed says, “It’s great for Deloitte to recognize and acknowledge the value in running a business on a different management model. There’s nothing about this company that is “managed” in the conventional sense of the word. We expect our people to be self-sufficient and to make their own decisions here. We push for the best, we expect the best, and that belief in our team’s capabilities has generated great success.”
Other factors that came into play for the Best Managed award were: A savvy business strategy that relies on local distribution partners; a distributed manufacturing model with North American factories in key market areas; an abundance of internal learning opportunities throughout the organization; low rate of employee turnover; fair hiring practices; and sustainable behaviours such as DIRTT’s paperless factories and the use of solar and wind power.
“We would like to congratulate DIRTT and its entire workforce,” said John Hughes, Partner, Private Company Services, Deloitte. “Achieving Canada’s highest level of Canadian business excellence takes a united effort and we are privileged to acknowledge such a strong team. We are delighted to celebrate the accomplishments of DIRTT.”
Established in 1993, Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies is a national awards program recognizing Canadian companies that have implemented world-class business practices and created value in innovative ways. Applications are reviewed by an independent judging panel that evaluates how companies address various business challenges, including new technologies, globalization, brand management, leadership, leveraging and developing core competencies, designing information systems, and hiring the right talent to facilitate growth.
2011 winners of the Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies award will be honoured at the annual Best Managed gala in Toronto on March 27, 2012. On the same date, the Best Managed symposium will address leading-edge business issues that are key to the success of today’s business leaders.
