Annual "Dine for Humanity" Event in New York City on March 7, 2012
New York, NY, February 26, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Humanity First USA will be holding the annual "Dine for Humanity" fundraising dinner on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 from 6pm to 8pm, at the Abigail Adams Ballroom in Manhattan, New York. The event will be raising funds for the Humanity First humanitarian and disaster relief programs.
The evening's program will be focusing primarily on the Humanity First USA program, Our Kids Our Future. This banner program helps improve academic outcomes and provides social support to socially disadvantaged and disaster struck communities. Humanity First recently partnered with DonorsChoose.org to aid in the restoration of the New Orleans public schools and over $30,000 was provided to the classrooms. The local Manhattan community has also benefited from this program in the past year: PS-11 received a mini-grant for their "Pay it Forward" project, and a group of teachers from the Caedmon School received a mini-grant to fund a teacher volunteer trip to Jamaica.
Humanity First volunteer, Kyle Denison Martin will be sharing information about Humanity First’s work in Haiti, including the primary school that is currently being constructed. He began volunteering with Humanity First following the catastrophic earthquake that struck Haiti on January 12, 2010. Martin teamed with Dr. Clayton Bell to open the doors of primary care clinic in the mountains of South East Haiti. Cloud Medical Forest Clinic provided care for more than 8,000 patients and directed public health projects to improve access to potable water and sanitation in the community. As cholera spread through Haiti, Martin and Dr. Bell worked Doctors Without Borders (MSF) to open a Cholera Treatment Unit near the clinic. Martin is currently a third-year medical student at the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, and also has a Masters in Bioethics, Humanity, and Society, as well as a Masters in Public Health from Michigan State University.
Our Kids, Our Future Program Director, Farida Ahmad, will also speaking at the event about additional domestic and international projects of Humanity First USA. In addition to directing the banner program, she is currently an educator at PS-11 in New York. Guest speaker Alissa Constable will be sharing her experience with Humanity First during the Gift of Sight clinic in Guatemala. She is a graduate of Hunter College CUNY with a BA in Media Communications, and currently works as a marketing and partnership strategist.
