Gallery Night is Seven Venues in One; Night Museum and Independent Galleries Open Their Doors Late

Erie, PA, February 29, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Explore Erie’s vibrant arts scene on Friday, March 16 from 7-10 p.m. at this after-hours celebration of art and culture, featuring exhibition openings, artist meet & greets and demos, and refreshments at the Erie Art Museum and independent galleries throughout the city. All gallery events are family-friendly and are free and open to the public. Visitors who visit five or more galleries will be entered in a drawing to win a $25 gift certificate to one of the participating venues.

The Erie Art Museum will offer many interactive, family-friendly activities along with showcasing several new exhibits on view in the galleries. Gallery Night coincides with a Family Reception for the annual Kids as Curators exhibit, on view in the Hagen Family Gallery. Middle-schoolers from the Robert Benjamin Wiley Charter School of Excellence, Mill Village Elementary Gifted Program, and Saint Luke School have crafted an exhibit of their individual collections, resulting in an exhibit that prompts visitors to think about “stuff” in an intellectual way. The exhibit will be on view for visitors to explore. Kids as Curators is made possible by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

Two well known artists with featured work on view in the Museum will be present for artist meet & greets with the public. Hank O’Neal, an ex-CIA agent, and award winning photographer, author and music producer will be present in the Bacon Gallery alongside his exhibit The Best of Hank O’Neal, celebrating a wide-ranging body of professional work, portraits of friends and associates, iconic images from across the world, and books he’s illustrated. Local artist Steven Dana will be present in the Ronald E. Holstein Gallery where Backyard: Small Sculptures by Steve Dana will be on view. Dana employs a minimalist approach to materials, converting wood into birds and other creatures with maximum effect.

First Class, on view in the Frenzel Gallery, showcases recent works by Erie Art Museum students and instructors.

The Museum will also host a variety of artist demonstrations in the Multipurpose Room where some of the professional artists who teach Studio Art classes at the Museum will be on hand to throw clay, draw, and paint with all ages.

The event will also feature a brand new gallery in town: D’Hopkins Denniston Gallery Of Fine Art, on West 10th Street. The gallery showcases an eclectic array of art from both local and nationally known artists.
