Enterprising Women Honors Director of U.S. Department of Labor Women’s Bureau with Advocacy Award
Sara Manzano-Díaz to Receive 2012 Honor
Raleigh, NC, March 02, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Monica Smiley, publisher and CEO of Enterprising Women magazine (http://www.enterprisingwomen.com), has announced that Sara Manzano-Díaz, director of the Women’s Bureau of the United States Department of Labor, will receive the publication’s Advocacy Award during the Hall of Fame luncheon at the 2012 Enterprising Women of the Year Awards celebration on Monday, March 12 and Tuesday, March 13 at the Ritz-Carlton in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The Advocacy Award is presented each year to a person or organization with proven dedication to the advancement of women’s entrepreneurship in the United States and throughout the world.
Manzano-Díaz is the 16th director of the Women’s Bureau at the U.S. Department of Labor, with a goal of empowering working women nationwide to achieve economic security. She has more than 25 years of federal, state and judicial experience, including 16 years in senior management at the federal government level. Prior to joining the U.S. Department of Labor, she served in the following capacities: deputy secretary of state for regulatory programs at the Pennsylvania Department of State, various positions at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), assistant attorney general in New York and co-chair of The Forum of Executive Women’s Mentoring Committee. She also participated in Madrinas, a program that provides mentors to at-risk Latina girls to encourage them to finish high school and attend college. Manzano-Díaz received her bachelor’s degree from Boston University and her juris doctor degree from Rutgers University School of Law in Camden, N.J.
