Maple Shade Attorney Ellen McDowell Honored with Award by Main Street New Jersey for Her Contributions to the Local Business Community
Maple Shade, NJ, March 04, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Attorney Ellen McDowell, managing partner of the law firm of McDowell Riga Posternock in Maple Shade, NJ, was recently given an award by the organization Main Street New Jersey for her efforts in proactively supporting the Maple Shade business community and securing the town’s Main Street designation. During a small ceremony at the February 23 Maple Shade Township Council meeting, McDowell was presented with a plaque by Assemblywoman Pam Lampitt (D-Cherry Hill), and Mayor Louis Manchello issued a proclamation in her honor.
“This is more than I deserve,” McDowell said, giving recognition to the efforts of other colleagues who worked with her to support the town.
Main Street New Jersey, which cited McDowell as a “Main Street Hero,” is a comprehensive revitalization program that promotes the historic and economic redevelopment of traditional business districts in New Jersey. The Main Street New Jersey Program was established in 1989 to encourage and support the revitalization of downtowns throughout the state, according to the Main Street New Jersey official website.
According to The Burlington Times, McDowell, who opened her law practice in Maple Shade 15 years ago, has been president of the local business association as well as the leader of the Main Street group. She is also the former president of the township Rotary. Feeling that the downtown “needed a little push,” she led the effort in acquiring the Main Street designation for Maple Shade.
“I realized we were looking a little tired, especially in the downtown where my office is,” she said in an interview after the ceremony.
Although McDowell is a resident of nearby Pennsauken, NJ, she nonetheless feels like a “Shader.”
“My life is here. It’s a great town, and I know a lot of people here.”
A graduate of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey School of Law - Camden, McDowell is admitted to practice in all federal and State courts in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, as well as the United States Supreme Court. Her areas of practice include bankruptcy, litigation, employment law, real estate, land use, family law, and wills, trusts and estates.
