DUECO Inc. Delivers Six Lamplighter Trucks to Consumers Energy Featuring Safer, More Cost Effective Rear Mounted Design
Units to be used in streetlight maintenance serving communities throughout the Lower Peninsula of Michigan feature new DUECO Inc. design on IH chassis.
Waukesha, WI, March 06, 2012 --(PR.com)-- DUECO, Inc. the largest privately owned provider of Terex Utilities and Hi-Ranger bucket trucks, digger derricks, cranes, stringing and tension equipment and utility trailers in the country is delivering six (6) lamplighter or streetlight maintenance vehicles to Consumers Energy that feature a new more cost efficient DUECO designed rear mount design.
The new design offers significant benefits over a front mount design, where costly modifications are made to the cab and the bucket sits on the right of the smaller cab, impacting visibility. In the new DUECO design, the bucket is rear mounted and the operator safely moves from the cab through the work area of the truck into the rear mounted bucket without ever stepping foot on the ground. No costly modifications were made to reduce the size of the cab and add a sliding door, as is needed on front mount lamplighter trucks. The shelving system Consumers used on earlier front mounted trucks was preserved. So the new design features a full cab and its visibility, while protecting employees while they transfer through the truck body and exit from the rear of the vehicle into the bucket without ever leaving the safety of the vehicle when working in busy traffic areas. Additionally, a second occupant in the vehicle has a more comfortable riding environment than the jump seat installed on the cab in front mount units.
The units are 38’ in height at the bottom of the bucket and feature a 43’ working height and a 29’ side reach. They also feature a directional arrow board at the rear and three (3) rotating warning lights. All six (6) units were delivered in December 2011.
Mike Johnson, Fleet Acquisition Manager at Consumers Energy noted, “We are excited to be taking delivery of these new vehicles that will provide added visibility and safety for our employees as they service our communities. We appreciate the experience and insights that the DUECO team brought to this new design which has both reduced the cost of these trucks relative to other front mount vehicles in our fleet, while enhancing the visibility and safety for our team members. We look forward to putting these trucks to work in our communities.”
