Government Funds Town’s Trip to Eco Centre

The Government’s Local Energy Assessment Fund is paying for representatives from Ashburton in Devon to visit the National Self Build & Renovation Centre in Swindon to discover how they can make their town more energy efficient.

Swindon, United Kingdom, March 07, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The UK Government’s Local Energy Assessment Fund is paying for representatives from Ashburton in Devon to visit the National Self Build & Renovation Centre in Swindon to discover how they can make their town more energy efficient.

Earlier this month, Ashburton Futures qualified for £24,000 worth of Department of Energy and Climate Change funding for a project called Making Ashburton-style Homes Fit For the Future (MASHFFF). The project is conducting energy assessments on a range of property types in the town to demonstrate the savings that can be made by making their homes more eco friendly.

Part of the funds has been earmarked to take 100 residents to the National Self Build & Renovation Centre where they can see a range of permanent eco exhibitions and attend a seminar programme designed by the centre especially for the group to show the many opportunities that exist to improve their home’s energy efficiency.

Andy Williamson from Ashburton Futures said, “This is a vital project for the people of Ashburton and the country as a whole. This funding comes as the Government gears up for the launch of the Green Deal later this year which is the first scheme of its kind in the world, aimed at radically overhauling the energy efficiency of millions of homes across the UK. However, national success relies on local participation and through projects like this we can show people both the opportunities and benefits of becoming more energy efficient. The National Self Build & Renovation centre is a tremendous facility where our residents will have access to a host of experts and interact with permanent displays. We’re very grateful for their help and support in hosting this day.”

David Murphy, general manager at the National Self Build & Renovation Centre said:

“We are delighted to host this event for the people of Ashburton. The Ashburton Futures project demonstrates the extensive opportunities for homeowners wanting to make their home more energy efficient, and also debunks any myth that eco solutions need to be installed when a property is built. Getting the message out that many eco products can be retro-fitted is one that is very important to spread and we’re very pleased to be lending the support of the centre to do this.”
