Boston Limited Reveals Next Generation Intel® Xeon® E5-2600-Series Solutions at Cebit 2012
Boston Limited is proud to unveil its latest range of energy-efficient servers, storage appliances and workstations based on Intel’s new Xeon E5-2600-series processors.
St Albans, United Kingdom, March 08, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Boston Limited, now in its 18th year as distribution partner for Super Micro Computer (NASDAQ: SMCI), is proud to unveil its latest range of energy-efficient servers, storage appliances and workstations based on Intel’s new Xeon E5-2600-series processors.
At Cebit 2012 Boston is revealing the Boston Quattro 1264-TL, the first in a new range of high performance servers that harnesses the power of Intel’s latest Xeon E5-2600-series processors and Supermicro’s high-density 2U Twin² server architecture. Thanks to its unique combination of four hot-pluggable nodes within a 2U enclosure, this ultra-dense server delivers outstanding performance and energy efficiency in a small rackmount enclosure.
Powered by up to eight of Intel’s 8-core Xeon E5-2680 processors, the Boston Quattro 1264-TL provides 64 cores and 128 threads, which equates to an incredible 2,688 threads when fully populating an industry-standard 42U rack cabinet.
Each node has an x16 PCI-Express 3.0 slot that provides superior throughput for expansion cards over previous generations of I/O controllers. Memory bandwidth is also significantly improved thanks to newfound quad-channel memory support, resulting in enhanced performance.
From March 6, Boston is supplying a wide variety of Xeon E5-based servers, workstations and storage appliances. Suitable for a wide array of uses and requirements, Boston has worked closely in partnership with Supermicro to bring to market the most diverse range of high performance solutions available today.
Data Centre Solutions
For data centre optimisation, Boston is offering a range of solutions designed specifically for environments demanding optimal power efficiency. These range from platforms that can support up to 768GB of quad-channel DDR3 memory, 10GbE networking and support for small form factor WIO+ expansion cards. Boston will also launch a new range of servers that can operate in temperatures up to 47°C, making them ideal for data centres with limited cooling capacity.
Storage Appliances
Boston’s range of high performance Igloo storage appliances provide everything a customer needs for solid, flexible and dependable storage. These new models can support from 36TB to 108TB of data for resource intensive storage applications. These storage appliances also have up to four PCI-E 3.0 x16 slots for improved performance and redundant Platinum-grade power supplies to reduce power consumption.
Workstations
Boston is also launching a range of high performance workstations based on the Intel Xeon E5-2600 –series of processors. These new workstations boast support for the latest CPU and GPU technologies, making them perfect for computationally intensive tasks such as CAD, CAM, CAE, CFD, simulation and scientific research. These high performance workstations provide up to 512GB of ECC registered memory, 80 PCI-E 3.0 lanes, as well as super fast storage; providing users with the fastest workstations on the market.
Manoj Nayee, Managing Director for Boston Limited says, “Boston takes pride in launching our latest range of high performance solutions based on Intel’s brand new Xeon E5 processors and Supermicro chassis and motherboards. These new platforms provide the highest performance-per-watt and performance-per-dollar on the market with enterprise-class build quality.”
