Cypin Production’s Branded Generics Conference Attracts Unexpected Breadth of Attendees
Some truly ground-breaking topics and dynamic speakers brought attendees from all over the world to the first Branded Generics TM conference held recently in Philadelphia.
New York, NY, March 09, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The conference host, Cypin Production, is used to bringing experts together from the U.S. and China, the main audience for its conferences. This two-day (February 27th and 28th) event, however, drew 65 percent of its attendees from an even broader international roster, including Brazil, Russia, Mexico, Turkey, and India.
Conference chair Daisy Rivera-Muzzio, president of Acumen BioPharma said, “The conference brought delegates from truly emerging markets, including small local companies along with multinationals. It brought a new perspective to gain insights and feedback from industry leaders in Turkey and Latin America, for example. Everyone, including the speakers, learned so much.” Those speakers included experts from big pharma, venture capitalists, emerging biotech, patent and intellectual property experts, and legal and financial leaders.
Branded generics are generic drugs that carry a big pharma name and are gaining increasing popularity in emerging markets. With patents expiring over the next five years (among other reasons) manufacturers are expected to lose up to $180 billion in U.S. sales. Branded drugs in these outside markets are therefore the next targets, and are seen as promising to command 75 percent of the pharmaceutical market shortly.
“Also with a trend towards fewer approvals of new molecular entities (NME), if I’m a generic manufacturer I need to find ways to use the generics, but formulated in a different way so they create new products,” says Rivera-Muzzio. "The take-home message is that customized, country-by-country strategy is required, mainly driven by individual country regulations," she concludes.
These are just a few of the reasons that made the 2012 Branded Generic conference so relevant and promises to attract an even more extensive audience.
