Balfour Beatty Construction Completes George Mason University Housing Project Six Months Early
Fairfax, VA, March 11, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The Balfour Beatty Construction-led design-build team recently delivered the George Mason University Northwest Housing VIIIA project six months ahead of the contract completion date.
Officially named the Rogers Hall and Whitetop Hall, the new housing project adds 609 beds to George Mason University’s Fairfax campus. The early delivery and overall success of the project is accredited in large part to the collaboration and partnership between Balfour Beatty Construction, Gensler and the design-build team partners, major subcontractors including, J.E. Richards, JCM Associates, Encon Group, Barr Concrete and Paciulli Simmons, and client George Mason University.
The Balfour Beatty /Gensler team “set a new standard of excellence for student housing on the Fairfax campus of George Mason University,” said Nancy Pickens, project manager, facilities administration for Mason. “The team was exceptional to work with. They provided innovative solutions, were extremely knowledgeable in all phases of design and construction, responded to Mason’s needs and were able to anticipate problems as well as identify possible future requirements.”
The new housing complex consists of two buildings with apartment- and suite-style residences. Students moved into the facility on January 21, 2012, a full semester early. Steve Morehouse, director of construction, auxiliary services for George Mason University said, “The early delivery was important to us as it allowed us to empty and then renovate another area of student housing all in one project as opposed to breaking it up over two or three summers, ultimately saving the University a substantial amount of money. We have added over 3,000 beds of University Residential Housing during the past eight years at Mason, and I can say that the Housing VIIIA project with the Balfour Beatty/Gensler team has been the smoothest project of them all.”
The Balfour Beatty Construction team delivered the project with no lost time accidents.
The Northwest Housing VIIIA project is the latest successful project to be added to Balfour Beatty’s portfolio of residential and hospitality projects in the Washington, D.C. area. Current projects include Embassy Suites for Miller Global Properties and 14th and U Street for The JBG Companies.
